….An a really nice email i just got from someone who loves their breaks. Nice one sarah ![]()
“It really is a piece of work Marc.. a journey of contrasting styles and musical vigour that’s perfectly mixed, brilliantly chosen and superbly thought out.
The ppl I did play it to, once I got home, agreed – they’ve been privvy so far to a completely different ‘Marc Reck’ and this, as it did me, hit them by storm.
But, what a journey, all tied in at the end by that amazing Sigur Ross track which brings the whole ‘music’ experience to a huge close and leaves you somewhat in awe. I listened to it with Jack as we drove thru all weathers down the M54. It isn’t that it “just” makes good driving music, even though the double edge thing was that while physically travelling on one journey I was listening simultaneously to another journey. Jack leant forward at one point and turned up the bass and said “God yes, this is it this is” (to get a reaction out of him is pretty amazing and thats the first time I’ve seen him actually moved by what he was hearing).
After that, I must’ve listened to it another 5 times during the course of the weekend.. in all sorts of different states. Its pretty much had the same affect on everyone.. so it can’t be just me reading things into it. Everytime I finished listening to it, someone came into the house asking to play it again. Even Valentino Canziani has never been played in my living room that much and consecutively too. Surly that speaks volumes about its quality. …Your best work yet mate

Visiting The Cottage Of Content
After responding to a few emails, and some nice tucker, me and Pyn went down to visit the Cottage of Content, http://www.brumsc.org.uk to go and meet a few of the collective, and ask the local kids about what they thought about me and skinny hosting a dj workshop. Greeted by two friendly members of the collective, we were offered a hot drink by the inspirational kurvin, and showed where the indymedia room was, where one of the local youths was using the internet. He seemed pretty interested in a dj workshop in that completely disinterested manner that teenagers do so well. He was interested in mcing, and gave me a couple of tunes to “find for him”. Very intelligent kid, and shame we had to go, as his mate was meeting up to shoot some pool. It seemed to me, that this project gives kids like matt, a place to go, and some useful input. He was respected so therefore respectful, and we all know how difficult teenagers can be.
Met Olly who will be putting on a party in the fantastic basement next month, and spoke to Kurv a little about the court hearing tomorrow. Aside from looking after the centre overnight, he is also putting the proposal together for the hearing tomorrow. The people there are doing real change, and making a postive statements against capitilist control over what what was essentially a much needed and widely used community centre. Both me and Pyn were greatly inspired by the visit, and while the nature of the project will invariably involve dealing with difficult situations and personalities and stepping outside of comfort zones, for anyone involved, this is definitly something to get involved with at whatever level, as it is the only way it can work. Read up, visit and join the mailing list, as they have just had the court hearing and the inevitable eviction is now to be resisted for as long as possible – http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/regions/birmingham/2006/07/344533.html

I.D Cards
A WORRYING READ!
This was written originally by Frances Stonor Saunders.
Frances Stonor Saunders is producer of arts documentaries for Channel 4 and the BBC, and the former arts editor of The New Statesman,
author of The Cultural Cold War, Diabolical Englishman and The Devil’s Broker and was awarded the Royal Historical Society’s William Gladstone Memorial Prize.
“You may have heard that legislation creating compulsory ID Cards passed a
crucial stage in the House of Commons. You may feel that ID cards are not
something to worry about, since we already have Photo ID for our Passport
and Driving License and an ID Card will be no different to that. What you
have not been told is the full scope of this proposed ID Card, and what it
will mean to you personally.
The proposed ID Card will be different from any card you now hold. It will
be connected to a database called the NIR, (National Identity Register),
where all of your personal details will be stored. This will include the
unique number that will be issued to you, your fingerprints, a scan of the
back of your eye, and your photograph. Your name, address and date of
birth will also obviously be stored there.
There will be spaces on this database for your religion, residence status,
and many other private and personal facts about you. There is unlimited
space for every other details of your life on the NIR database, which can
be expanded by the Government with or without further Acts of Parliament.
By itself, you might think that this register is harmless, but you would
be wrong to come to this conclusion. This new card will be used to check
your identity against your entry in the register in real time, whenever
you present it to ‘prove who you are’.
Every place that sells alcohol or cigarettes, every post office, every
pharmacy, and every Bank will have an NIR Card Terminal, (very much like
the Chip and Pin Readers that are everywhere now) into which your card can
be ‘swiped’ to check your identity. Each time this happens, a record is
made at the NIR of the time and place that the Card was presented. This
means for example, that there will be a government record of every time
you withdraw more than £99 at your branch of NatWest, who now demand ID
for these transactions. Every time you have to prove that you are over 18,
your card will be swiped, and a record made at the NIR. Restaurants and
off licenses will demand that your card is swiped so that each receipt
shows that they sold alcohol to someone over 18, and that this was proved
by the access to the NIR, indemnifying them from prosecution.
Private businesses are going to be given access to the NIR Database. If
you want to apply for a job, you will have to present your card for a
swipe. If you want to apply for a London Underground Oyster Card, or a
supermarket loyalty card, or a driving license you will have to present
your ID Card for a swipe. The same goes for getting a telephone line or a
mobile phone or an internet account.
Oyster, DVLA, BT and Nectar (for example) all run very detailed databases
of their own. They will be allowed access to the NIR, just as every other
business will be. This means that each of these entities will be able to
store your unique number in their database, and place all your travel,
phone records, driving activities and detailed shopping habits under your
unique NIR number. These databases, which can easily fit on a storage
device the size of your hand, will be sold to third parties either legally
or illegally. It will then be possible for a non-governmental entity to
create a detailed dossier of all your activities. Certainly, the
government will have clandestine access to all of them, meaning that they
will have a complete record of all your movements, from how much and when
you withdraw from your bank account to what medications you are taking,
down to the level of what sort of bread you eat – all accessible via a
single unique number in a Central database.
This is quite a significant leap from a simple ID Card that shows your
name and face.
Most people do not know that this is the true character and scope of the
proposed ID Card. Whenever the details of how it will work are explained
to them, they quickly change from being ambivalent towards it.
The Government is going to COMPEL you to enter your details into the NIR
and to carry this card. If you and your children want to obtain or renew
your passports, you will be forced to have your fingerprints taken and
your eyes scanned for the NIR, and an ID Card will be issued to you
whether you want one or not. If you refuse to be fingerprinted and eye
scanned, you will not be able to get a passport. Your ID Card will, just
like your passport, not be your property. The Home Secretary will have the
right to revoke or suspend your ID at any time, meaning that you will notLondon School of Economics). This scheme exists solely to\n exert total

anything that requires you to present your government issued ID Card.
The arguments that have been put forwarded in favour of ID Cards can be
easily disproved. ID Cards WILL NOT stop terrorists; every Spaniard has a
compulsory ID Card as did the Madrid Bombers. ID Cards will not ‘eliminate

Project X Presents Like Fxck
The big project x day was here, and i’d made a definite decision to take it nice and easy today. I’ve done too many nights and got far too overexcited too many times to know that today i needed to not be rushing, so i started the day with an hour of good meditation, followed by some stretching, work on the bag, and training, followed by a really cold shower, which on a nice day like that was really cool. Made a full vege breakfast, and then got my stuff together ready to leave for the skate park.
On the way i dropped by Jibbering to pick up the tickets and was suprised and very pleased to that we had sold 40 tickets! We needed to break even, just to pay for the show, (not the people involved), so we were chuffed to have that at least. Arrived at the venue where everyone was busy getting prepared. I was going to run through my set, and cue the bits with Dawn, but Justin advised we need to be soundchecking, so we decided to freeform it anyway. Although the show has had a massive run up time, which has been fantastic in so many ways, the actual content of the show is going to be very improvised, which although has caused many people to lose much sleep, i think it will really add that X factor. (nopunintended)
After setting up the laptop and levels and dropping my exodus tune to a few people, (Im loving that now!:), i grabbed a beer and refreshed myself with the artist and performer directions in the green room, and chatted to Leon, Dawn, Unterwelt, and the musicians. Well everyone really, all doing different roles. The bar upstairs was being hosted by Desert Groove, courtesy of Dawn, and there was some friends i hadnt seen for a while there before the show. There was stuff to be doing, but soon we were ready for the audience. Rob, Pyn and Tash were hosting the door with style, membership keys at the ready. Anne Marie was keeping it flowing, and the technical crew were sorting it out. Musicians Performers and crew were all doing their thing, and there were high levels of anticipation everywhere. People started to arrive early, and soon there was a queue! So many wonderful people came, so i wont start listing them all, but suffice to say the people that came, of all the different ages and backgrounds created a really magical atomosphere.

Project X – Day 5
Arrived at the skate park to setup equipment and for the final push and dress rehearsal. Great response to the night before’s efforts, and after a coffee. We got busy with what needed to be done. Hats off to Anne-Marie, Rich Bate, Justin, Rick, Batrum, Chris, Leon, Ant
Martin for cool runnings

Our marketing legend, Rob Horrocks was busy interviewing and recording material for the next radio show, and recording visual element were photographers, and a really cool independant video production team, downsized for the dress rehearsal to Stu and Ian, with interviews from Emily. Was so cool of them to offer to record and edit the event, and even better that they said they loved doing it. Apparently they had had a really shitty day, culminating in a long train ride to brum, but when they arrived, and saw what was going on, they were really chuffed!

I loved this week, because aside from getting to work and perform with performance artists, musicians, vjs, and belly dancers, musically, and drop my own tunes, i got to get involved with the setup of how a big production comes together. There were lots of finishing jobs to do today, like marking stages, running cables, hanging lights and uv cannons, and hoisting the sets, and so many people all doing different things, for the one purpose of putting on a really massive show. Here’s some of the set pieces prelights.

After the soundcheck and a cuppa

..it was onto play grandma’s footstep with Unterwelt in the bar!

Then the first full dress rehearsal began :

I had a couple of hours before my stage call, so went to meet my ex girlfriend for some dinner. We both needed to express some stuff before the show tomorrow, as we’d recently split up, so decided we needed to hook up for dinner. It was a beautiful and emotional couple of hours, and we both felt so much better afterwards. Our dreams and direction mean that we can’t be lovers, but our desire for each other’s happiness means that we shall always be soulmates. Anyway thats personal stuff, so back to x (about 10.15pm)
Walked into the lights down, and the destroyers..

Couldnt believe how good it all looked when i first walked in, as was the first time it had been dark, and (relatively) all setup. After a rousing performance from the destroyers, an aurul fight ensues spurred on by Unterwelt..

Koala Grip win the fight…

And then into the second run through of Completion into the segway into my set. Completion went fairly well on all 3 stages, especially considering it was the 2nd time we had all performed it together, and the first crack at the segway performance procession got a really positive response (and was much fun). After mixing a few tracks, i joined the meeting, where we discussed any further issues, got videoed some more, had a beer, and got to know the people we did and didnt know very well, that little bit better.

Everyone was in very high spirits and exciting anticipating tommorrow. Went
home about 2ish feeling alllriigghtt!
Project X – Day 4
After a slightly panic about the fact i had a tune to write and produce, a set to run through, and various other parts to be performed live in 2 days, i set off in the torrential rain to the skate park to go run through the set and help out with whatever was going on. Can’t remember a great deal about that day, but ant gave me a lift back with my equipment and i could spent the next 7 hours on exodus and the set.

3am in the morning the tune was sounding great, the segway was working well, and i was confident about the set whatever happened as that was djing. One nore hour to mix the track and im off to bed i thought. Til i got a message locking my copy of ableton and my tune! Something ALWAYS happens with music and technology, and ALWAYS at the worst possible moment. Managed not to get phased by it this time though, though thanked my lucky stars for having a external drive and setup on another system!!
Finished the track and segway runthrough and then collapsed around 5am
Project X – Day 3
Arrived at the skatepark at around 2.30 to go through my set, with Leon and work with the performance artists and Dawn the ever amazing belly dancer. After coffee and catch up, i ran through my set trying a few other tunes, and showing Dawn the Denons. Definitly going to drop Apocolypse now! Iain Armstrong was also sharing the stage, so when he arrived to have a run through of his set,

me and dawn went to help Martin make the set structures, similar, but simpler to those he made at shambhala.

Martin, the set design and artist extraordonaire was making these big structures by using willow branches, masking tape and tissue paper. Really simple, and easy to pick up, but so effective. This is what we made pre tissue paper.

After some coffee break with Anne Marie, i went to see the performance artists, who were being dressed by costume and mask magician Pyn.

I chatted with Lucy and Unterwelt and Pyn, and we decided it would be better to almagamate the performance into us meeting up in the same place, but instead of leading and conducting, we would be playing and responding with a game of grandma’s footsteps when i get on stage. Brilliant, and very enjoyable that playing was too! Top people.
Following that i went for a chat with the X crew in the bar, and then had a meeting and some dinner with Pyn to sort out our workshop proposal for the drama workshop we will be doing from september. Very excited to have been asked to do that, as aside from getting to work with Pyn, i will get to record, teach and perform a soundtrack (or rather a group of 8/10 years old will) using my binaurul mics/decks/laptops, etc, alongside Pyn’s theatre performance group of kids into one cohesive performance. We managed to get the proposal together, and then after meeting and chatting with the crew til fairly late, me any Pyn went back for a smoke and chill, (w/thanks to Rich Bate;x)
Project X – Day 2
Spent the day working on the x set, completion and the seqway, developing the exodus intro and setting up the studio ready for a sesh with smokedog. We spent a good four hours getting it right before Ant came and picked us up to go for the run through of completion with all the musicians. Smokedog was on the keys/laptop, and me on the decks, kaoss pad and mixer.

I felt like a kid in a candy shop when i first walked in, with the venue really starting to take shape, with lights hung, stages dressed, and the sound rigged up.

Lots of activity going on, and Anne Marie keepin it all running as only she can. When we arrived the string ensemble was running through their pieces with Rich Batsford on Piano

After setting up the laptop, kaoss and decks, we grabbed a beer, and watched Koala Grip run through, followed by our run through of completion, and the segway to my set.

A meeting followed, then some deep sleep.
Project X – Day 1
Arrived at the skate park to take down and begin the build ready for saturday. Anne Marie was there, as was Rich Batsford, Justin, and Rick. Nice to see Harley Steve after their recent winning bid to run the bar. After a coffee, we started taking down the screen,

and some of the rigging, and getting the pa and stuff out, and putting the stages in.

Met Unterwelt the performances artists who were rehearsing all week, and had a chat about how we could integrate what we do together for the dj set. The idea so far is that after i drop my first track after completion, i jump off stage, go and meet them on the other side of the arena, and then we have a procession back to the stage, until it kicks off with a conductor like movement using a big cane. More ideas tomoz, but was muchos fun to have the opp to work with such open people.
I left to go work on my set, completion and work on a breaks remix of exodus that i wanted to use at the start of the set to integrate with the performers.
Dropped in to have a pint with Lee and the random people that dropped in and out. Met some old hippies, an organic farmer, and a guy that had been engraving for 23 years! Check him out -

Back in time to do my 2nd radio show. Technical problems meant a tricky start and no recording, but some nice feedback from the emails. Listened to the Chaotic Show where they had the awesome Ochre Mon doing a guest set. Have a listen to the set at http://influx.org.uk/site/shows/182/chaotic-city-016….Its gooood.
Had a good run through of my set, using exodus as the start tune, recording to cd for perfomance artists tomoz, and then after a nice chat with Ant til early, got sleeepp
MosFest 2006 Pt 2 + The Dance Competition
After breakfast in the sunshine we left for mosfest pt 2. Its amazing how many lovely people there are about when the sun comes out and there’s good stuff on in moseley!
Finally got in the park just in time to catch the end of Egososo – Veerry good brummy band – check their myspace. Was packed with faces and chilled and chatted til Dready came on. No one was dancing yet, so i thought i’d go get started to the reggae vibes. Dready was trying a bit too hard to get people up, but nice tunes all the same.
Went off to play some hackysack with the smokin dog and tai chi master Steve, then after more sitting, chatting and being given a lovely present from barcelona from fantabulous anne-marie, it was back to the dancefloor for a dancing competition with Tracy’s kids Weyland and Flint.

Very fuckin clever 8 year olds are. They tricked me into dancing by Flint when i was enjoying a beautiful conversation with Pyn Lyndall, by announcing that we have to dance if we laugh, and then achieving that by Weyland pulling stupid faces until we do. It was funny, so honouring our side of the bargain, we entered the arena. The kids threw some awesome shapes to a great set from Koala Grip, and while a lot of the choreography was me and lyndall running past the lads in a ( crisscross) fashion,we were all awarded our scores at the end from weyland.

I came 6th in the first round, which i was pretty dissapointed about to be fair, but nevertheless the band was fantastic, and i pulled some moves in the next round
Sat down and chatted to Skinny, who i been greeting but not really meeting around the last few months, complimenting him on his set from Food Not Bombs/No Borders. When we swapped email addresses by giving him a flyer with my name on, he was shocked that i was Marc Reck, and apparently had been wanting to meet me for ages! Seems we in a similar life situation, and both have the same passion for similar breaks and both want to write some kick ass tunes. I recently asked the world for a bass player who wants to write live breaks, and turns out skinny plays bass and has similar ideas! Sounds to us like we should compliment each other very synchronistically, so both were excited about the prospect, and decided to get together mid august.
After we all got kicked out, loads of us went to the prince before walking home with Ant, Lyndall and Pizza ready for the Project X week ahead.
Moseley Festival 2006 Pt 1/Jed BBQ
After some huge stackers, emails and a run through of my x set, i went to the old mow to catch the football. Everyone was spread over the other venues, but the old mow had a screen in the garden, so won hands down. Dropped in to see Pyn after finishing her workshop, and joined Martin, Lyndall, Deta, Emma in the old mow, for a beer and a vauge interest in the screen. I normally get into the world cup, but there’s too much interesting stuff happening, besides the fact that England in the final or 3rd place clashes with the event we’ve been working on for the last year and half!
We all trouped down to moseley park of the moseley festival. I normally at other festi’s this time of year, so was cool to catch the mosfest. Ska band 360 were skanking great, so straight to the stage for Lyndall Pyn and Me, joining a bouncing crowd, and a setting sun.

So many people there from past present and future, and got chance to invite people to Project X/Like Fxck.

After a trip to the prince garden we went to a bbq party at Jed’s til around 6am, and then went back to Pyns to get some rest before day two.

Sutton Park/Studio X/No Borders
After some work in the studio, i met up with Elin, and went for an afternoon in the massive Sutton Park today. I never been before, but had a great day out basking in the sun, chasing cows, and getting deep by the river. Here’s some of the nice pictures -

After a bite to eat, Musical Audi Rich Batsford from Project X came over for a studio session on completion. Nice and easy sesh, where i played the track of rich on piano, ant on bass and steve on drums and showed where and how id drop the sample of howard marx reading a passage from a book, which rich recorded a few years ago. Dropping the sample using my denon cdj through a filter delay on the kaoss pad 2. The piece also required a synth/pad swell with slow attack so after a short chat and a look at atomosphere/ableton, we was done and off on our flyering mission to moseley. Hooked up with Pyn, and Lyndall on the way and had a great time flyering round the local pubs. Just blagged it into the bulls head at kick out time, and then it was off to a no borders/food not bombs refugee fundraiser at the spotted dog.

Old friend and grass roots indymedia activist Alex was hosting the door when we arrived, and itwas enlightening to meet a few of the other people involved with organising the event. I learnt that there was a plan to squat and reopen a disused community centre in yet another of the disused buildings in birmingham soon. Apparently, there are over 300,000 empty homes across England alone, and dissapointingly, more empty homes than homeless families. I was inspired by what we spoke about, and chatted about ways to get involved. Even the celebrating sanctuary may not be all it seemed

Walking into the dancefloor was one involuntary movement as the tunes was fuckin great. Big dirty breaks, classic drum and bass, and the phattest dancehall reggae.

Freedom of movement for all towered above the outdoor dancefloor with bright carnival esque lights on the lower level. A marquee covered some of the stars from the dancefloor but the crowd was just . Anyway lots of cool people, cracking tunes from Christie, Greg and expecially skinny, and lots of very cool (in the real way) people. I must confess to having one spliff too many at the end, and made a rather sharper exit than i was intending too, but nonetheless, one of the best nights out i been too since…

Exodus Vs Rich Batsford and the Candlelit Concert
Having a very productive day today, working on x stuff, web stuff, my set and then opening up a breaks remix of exodus i started, and being very impressed. I felt in the zone so to speak, and was intending to spend the night writing a blockbuster breaker, but my mind was also feeling a strong sense of wanting to go and support and hear Rich perform his piano pieces at a concert by candlelight in his old church. I decided that exodus would have to wait and cycled down to church, joining some good friends and supporters. It was a great turn out and as i walked in there was some beautiful 3 part female vocal harmonies soaring around the church. After a break and a mingle, Rich was up, at first solo on the piano, and then accompanied by a string ensemble performing 4 pieces (beautifully, and with a lotta soul), that are to be played at the Like Fxck gig. I first heard the pieces when we used to hook up in my studio almost 3 years ago and seeing Rich perform those pieces so beautifully bought a proud sense of warmth to my heart. Big up Mr B
Afterwards i got to meet the performance artists who will be appearing with Luce and Adam, and then some of us went to give some support to Rich Burke (who we just missed:(), and Greg and his band Black Heart Generator.
Chilled with my housemates until bed
Roots De Ville, Carlos’ 40th, + My Guitar
Today was the roots de ville festi, which was organised by Freelance musican Joel, Robin from jam jah/friendly fire, dance teacher Shelley, and Rooty owner Kent, and was held on two stages outside rooty frooty. There was soo many friends and cool people there, and the music, from all over the world, (though all from local talent), created real unifying type vibes.

Me, Lucy, Pyn, Lyndall, and Rich all went to Carlos’s to celebrate his 40th, drinking dancing and meeting up with loads more people, finally ending up as usual talking shit around the fire til about 6/7 am! After some sleep the next day, i spent the afternoon writing, and the evening playing my guitar, working on an acoustic song, and learning how to play no other way by Jack Johnson. Jackie Brown and nice food followed into deep sleep.
Summer Solstice 2006
In the day i went to the camping shop to buy some supplies for the trip to the solstice and for upcoming travelling expeditions, and then did a big food shop.
The journey to the solstice was not the smoothest, though meant i got to see Jaffa, Lyndall and Pyn, which is always cool. Walked to the old mow, hoping to meet martin, as his phone was off, and i needed the address of the van again, but as he’d just left, i went to nearby pyn’s where some quick thinking, and an answer phone message meant i got there safe and smooth. I spoke to Mike just before i left, as was planning to go down for a few days to stay with him and some other close friends in avebury, on the way back from spending the solstice in stonehenge, but unfortunatly the phone signal meant we couldnt find them on the drive back
Went down with some fantastic people in the most comfortable van though. Martin, Lou, and Jerry were there, along with four very cool people from all different creative and holistic backgrounds and lifestyles. Was hammering down just until we got out the van, then the closer we got to the stones, the brighter it got, until i reached the stones and was welcomed with a spliff by friendly random dude and his friends. Ahh

The day was great fun, and met some really lovely people including claire the very talented poet, and an extremely energetic yoga girl! I was feeling a little removed with thoughts of Clive, and a little aprehensive about seeing ali, but a few drinks with Martin and Carolyn soon sorted that, and onto muchos fun til the early afternoon! Arrived back about 3pm and had a very nice long sleep.

Clive Briscoe Current mood: Got an email today to say that a close friend, Clive Briscoe, who is currently travelling Europe with his job, had died, apparently falling off a balcony whilst celebrating his 33rd birthday. I dont have much to say about it right now, other than he meant a lot to me and a whole load of people, and that he was a genuine light in this world, often in the face of real adversity.

Growing Bags + Buying my first canvas painting

Doctors, Grow Bags + Buying my first painting Had to go to doctors today to check out the injury to my ribs from a couple of weeks ago in combat training, as it was still there when breathing in. Seemed it was just internal bruising, but will have to stop training for a few weeks The painting though is of Birmingham, and though done from memory and imagination is pretty accurate in terms of the buildings that are there now. The clouds remind me of the promise of dawn, leaving places as the sun comes up, and the painting connects with me in some ways to how living in Birmingham can feel at times. In one hand a dark, claustrophobic, industrial, city, yet on the other side, a bright, intensly multicutural place, brimming with a wealth of creative opportunities and experiences. The fields and further landscape reminds me of the wealth of landscapes we have in Britain and how easy it is to get there. I could stare at it for hours, and probably find lots more meanings in it, so for now here, is a picture of Birmingham on canvas, alebit taken with a camera phone with flash!

Audio/Visual Triggers, Green Street Show + Steve K’s Birthday!
Spent the afternoon with Vj extraordinaire Leon (Chromatouch) Trimble, working on ideas for the visuals for the project x set. He showed me that you can sync up the visuals with the audio input, and that i can even trigger audio and visual samples AND affect them using the my kaoss pad 2, live on the night! So apart from playing all my favourite tunes as a climax to the biggest event we have all been working on for a year and a half, and working with belly dancers and performance artists, i can now trigger video too! U can tell im excited no?
After some food i left the house, finding out some rather difficult news on route to the green st show. The green st show was an interactive art installation by a couple of local artists exhibited at what i think is one of the most important venues in the city, Decoy/GreenSt. It was inspiring stuff and i spent about 20 mins walking around and letting the art do its thing. There were lots of very interesting creative brummys were there, but i wasnt in the headspace talking after the news, so made an exit to chill by the water for an hour.
After that i walked to meet the beautiful people for Steve (Koala Grip) Kelly’s birthday.

Drinks, dancing, singin and laughing ensued, followed by a lock in, a coutesy bottle of vodka, and a trip to their city centre pad. Me and jon left about 10 am laughing our asses off all the way home about the jugganaut bitch (again!). Saw my housemate Ant on the way home, and after some deep sharing and sincere hugs, i fell asleep about 11ish thinking about the value of true friendships.

Project X Set Working on my project x set today, which is to feature in the last section of the like fxck show – www.projectxpresents.com and its getting really exciting man! Unlike most dj gigs, I have to get a rough set, samples and ideas together for “the book”, a couple of weeks before the rehearsals, to help sync all the other parts together to make the whole (of the last section). Leon Chromotouch is coming over tomoz to discuss the video – i.e audio/visual sync triggers around 6 screens, and then over the next few weeks, there’ll be lots of meeting and developing with the dancers, performance artists, percussionists, and light and sound techs until the weeklong rehearsals at the venue, up til the show on july 8th. Did my first real take of it last night and i cannot fuckin wait now! The people who are involved are so ahead of their game, and i do feel lucky …. The only difficult bit is what tunes, and samples to leave out! If you want to check it out what we all been working on for the last year and a half, tickets are on sale at the website, though there’s only 300 max (as the audience sit in the middle, with the action moving around 3 stages). Hope you can be there. Mx 12:25 AM – 1 Comments – 2 Kudos – Add Comment – Edit – Remove |
